The late, great jazz photographer and dear friend Ray Avery, referred to my work as “Performance Portraits”.

It is that description of my work that most satisfies me.

All my portraits are taken during live performances and in available light.

It has been my experience, that only under these conditions, I can find the honesty, vulnerability, and emotional content I look for.

Upfront and personal has always appealed to me and if given a choice between facts and feelings, I will always choose to shoot the latter.  Bob Barry
